What is a Plain Weave Fabric?

Plain weave is one of the basic types of textile weaves, others being twill and satin. With plain weave, the warp and weft fabrics create a simple cross-hatch, crossing over and under each other. This is similar to basketweave, in which two or more threads are bundled together and then stitched into the same pattern. Examples of plain weave fabrics are chambray, poplin, and broadcloth.
